Our Story

At Biggers Market our roots run deep, all the way back to the 1920s, when Sven’s grandfather and his brothers founded a family produce business in Charlotte, North Carolina. They called it "Biggers Brothers", and together they built a reputation for delivering farm-fresh fruits and vegetables across the Southeast. Their legacy helped feed generations, and their passion for quality, local food laid the foundation for everything we do today.

Nearly a century later, Sven launched his own food market in 2010 to be called "Biggers Market", with a simple mission: to bring that same sense of community, local foods, and unforgettable experience to Wilmington. What started as a small roadside stand has grown into a beloved local destination with two lively locations, one on Market Street and another on Carolina Beach Road.

So where did the name come from? Biggers is Sven’s mother’s maiden name, and we thought it was the perfect way to honor the family history while making our little market feel... well, BIGGER.

Today, Biggers Market is more than just a place to grab produce. It’s a gathering spot, a neighborhood hangout, and a celebration of everything local. From seasonal favorites and homemade meals to craft beverages and live music, we’re all about creating good vibes and great food — all while supporting Carolina farmers and makers.

Come visit us at either of our Wilmington locations, or let us bring the market to you with Biggers Delivery - a daily, customizable food delivery service filled with hand-selected, local produce and any of your other favorites from the market, delivered straight to your door.

Our Core Values

Southern Hospitality runs through everything we do.

We welcome everyone like a guest in our home; team members, neighbors, or first-timers alike. We show respect, lend a hand, and serve with generosity and pride. It’s the way we were raised, and it’s how we care for our community.

We live by the rhythm of the seasons.

Good work follows nature’s pace.  As the seasons shift, so do our crops, our food, and our markets. It keeps us real, local, and connected to the moment we’re in.

We create an experience worth remembering.

We aren't just a place to shop, we are a place to gather.  At our core it’s about  local food, music, and people.  Every display, meal, and conversation are part of an experience that turns everyday shopping into something special.

We work with pride and purpose.

We carry ourselves with an old-fashioned work ethic. No excuses, no passing the buck. When something needs doing, we step up and help each other get it done. We take pride in our craft and purpose in our work.
